Percepciones ambientales en jóvenes universitarios de la Licenciatura en Ingeniería Civil

Abstract

Para nadie es desconocido que los últimos años se caracterizan por una destacada revolución tecnológica, que ha provocado grandes avances en diferentes disciplinas científicas, tecnológicas y sociales, aunado a lo anterior también se observa un marcado déficit de valores éticos y ambientales. Por este motivo los ingenieros civiles se ven obligados a cambiar su forma de pensar y actuar ante diferentes situaciones en su desarrollo profesional por lo que es crucial que durante el periodo de estudio o como profesionistas comprendan a fondo los retos ambientales que su entorno y el mundo afronta, y conozcan que su actuación será parte de la solución y no del problema. Los ingenieros civiles se encuentran en una posición privilegiada e influyente para diseñar, construir e innovar un futuro sustentable, sin embargo hay que saber si tienen los conocimientos necesarios, están comprometidos con el desarrollo sustentable y demuestran interés por los temas ambientales.

In the last decade, technological advances have revolutionized the way we live. They have improved the way we work and research in science and social areas. However; this revolution has been marked with the loss of ethic and environmental virtues. On Civil Engineering schools, one of the areas that their education covers is sustainable development. It is crucial that during undergraduate education they understand environmental challenges that their communities and the world are facing. Undergraduate civil engineering students should understand their impact on the professional field. They would be available to develop, design, and build sustainable solutions. In this study, a conducted study on environmental perceptions of undergraduate civil engineering students was performed. The study highlighted if students are committed with environmental aspects, if they have the necessary knowledge on the topic, and if they are interested in improving their communities.
